10/20/2020 – Day 157 – 1 Kings 5-9 – Historical connection – before and after the Temple..
Ch 6:1: “And it came to pass in the four hundred and eighieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt…”
From the Exodus then:
“Allowing forty years to Moses, seventeen to Joshua, two hundred ninety-nine to Judges, forth to Eli, forty to Samuel and Saul, forty to David , and four to Solomn, before he began the work , we have just the sum of four hundred and eighty. So long it was before that holy house was built, which in less than four hundred and thirty years was burnt by Nebuchadnezzar. It was thus deferred, because Israel had by their sins, made themselves unworthy of this honor: and because God would show how little he values external pomp and splendor in his service. And God ordered it now, chiefly to be a shadow of good things to come. ” John Wesley
What a unintended segway from my post yesterday on Exodus, overviewing the construction of the tent of meeting in the wilderness to the construction of the Temple in today’s reading. Unintended also that I included a visual of the Temple from the web in my conclusion in Exodus for perspective – tent of meeting vs. The temple.
