Praying the Bible – Day 2

0

Yesterday I introduced the book Praying the Bible. If you did not get a chance to read that article and watch the short video, then you might like to do that now.

In today’s video, Don Whitney, explains the approach of picking from the “Psalms of the Day” a Psalm and then praying through it. In the book he explains that the “Psalms of the Day” are simply five Psalms where the first one is the day of the month and the other four are found by adding 30. So since today is October 20th, the Pslams of the Day are Psalm 20, Psalm 50, Psalm 80, Psalm 110, Psalm 140. He would suggest taking 5-6 seconds to scan each Psalm, so about 30 seconds total, and then picking one to use for prayer. In the video, as an example, he picks Psalm 37 (which would be one of the Psalms of the Day if today were the 7th of any month).

One other note, Psalm 119 would come up on the 19th of each month. But since it is longer than most other groupings of any five Psalms, Whitney recommends on months with 31 days to use Psalm 119 alone as the “Psalm of the Day”.
