01/02/2021 – The book by Bob & Judy Fisher: “Life is a Gift: Inspiration from the Soon Departed”
With our 365 read, reflect, pray and witness though the Bible, I am adding a handful of books to my reading wish list queue, for I cannot get to it the next five months. Nancy gave me this one.
I think it would be wise for us to look at the results of the interview of 104 souls just before their departure from this world. As the saying goes, wouldn’t it be wise for us to look at that for ourselves now , as opposed to waiting to the last minute.

What are the largest disconnects right now between what God has called me to do and where I am spending my precious time that God has given me in this “breath” that we call life? I don’t have work colleagues that report to me anymore. But when, that ended, I was in the midst of implementing a monthly disciplined team meeting (*a -note below) that succinctly was a group sharing of these two questions:
- Where do we spend time now that is not an efficient use of our time?
- Where are our biggest opportunity costs right now in terms of investment return: The best returns per $ amounted invested , expressed in terms of time.
- (*a) Note – we were doing it already, we just had to be more disciplined by carving out dedicated time from our busy schedules. And also, we had to formalize the structure to incorporate it into the quality improvement process, budgeting and staff planning. Indeed, I’m sure it is out there today somewhere, but I could write a book on this. The practical and real obstacle: “Who is this guy Jimmy”. So, we will continue to develop it within the family.
Call this the “Opportunity Cost Gap”. The mission – Close to gap to the limit -0-. If our priorities in terms of kingdom opportunities are properly reflected, this would be a tool and a path that leads to: “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” Can we aspire to more than that? Talk about a legacy by His grace and to His glory!
“Every man must do two things alone: he must do his own believing, and he must do his own dying.” Martin Luther (*b)
(*b): Jimmy note – If we equate “believing’ to “justification by faith”, I would say I don’t do my own “believing”. In fact, I don’t do any of it, it too was a gift from God! But Martin’s point here I believe is: “We have a will and free choice”.
Soli Deo Gloria!
