01/05/2022 – Day 311 – 2 Chronicles 33 – 36 – Compare and contrast the times of Josiah’s Reforms to our day.
One striking contrast: Through the Holy Spirit, the young king Josiah saw the light. So, who do we have in governmental leadership in this country that goes against the flow, and calls for honoring God in all things? Notice that in chapter 34 that Hilkiah, the female messenger for God emphasizes that the Lord was still “going to bring disaster on this place and its people.” But, note the personal message to Josiah that followed: “Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. Now I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place and on those who live here.”
Personally, I point myself once again to Luke 12:48: “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” So how then shall we live? A weak sports analogy: What if each of us were given a spot on an elite basketball team. And we knew the team was going to win the championship. Would we coast? Or would we give it all we got out of love and gratitude? We were born for this time and this mission within an evil world that belongs very temporarily to the Devil. I find that extremely humbling, in an appropriate praying posture. Failure is not an option and by His grace, we won’t fail, no matter the world’s assessment of the long odds! Let’s seize this opportunity to glorify Him through our suffering, in this small window opening that will not be available again for all of eternity. All in! So, yes, we will have all of eternity to celebrate…
I encourage y’all to look at the last cycle post on this Day 311 reading. It covers different ground, realizing of course that it all ties together…
Soli Deo Gloria!
