01/13/2023 – “We fear men so much, because we fear God so little. One fear cures another. When man’s terror scares you, turn your thoughts to the wrath of God.” G.K. Chesterton // (See comments below)

A very time consuming assignment for us: Look up all the corroborating Bible verses on the subject of “Fear of the Lord”.

Here is one hundred verses for a start:

On sad note, but a reality for all of us: “The best of men are men at best”. Look at what Abraham said in Genesis 20:11 in reply to Abimelech calling him out for saying that Sarah was his sister: “Abraham replied, ‘I thought, ‘There is absolutely no fear of God in this place. They will kill me because of wife.” Convoluted logic , no?: “There is no fear of God in this place therefore I am fearful.” Instead of: “If God is with me, who can be against me!” He even tried to justify saying that by noting that she was in fact his first cousin, once removed. So, the convolution: Since there is no fear of God here, I am afraid of mere man. huh?

And I should not make light of it, but Isaac did the exact same thing with Rebekah. Was this a genetic thing?

Soli Deo Gloria!
