David had multiple wives as candidates for empathy, a band of brother warriors that had his back, and on top of that he was a national hero. And how about Jonathan !?! How many that have walked the earth have had a loyal friend that could match Jonathan? As in: “To whom much is given, much will be required.”

I submit that it is a relative statement: In other words, God’s loving care and concern for him made all of his loved ones’ concern for him look like nothing. Last cycle’s post on this reading was on 04/22/2021 , in case you want to take a look. He was humble before the Lord in prayer. Look at Psalm 141:4: “Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil…” The best of men are men at best. David was struck with how one can fall the slippery slope early on in his reign in a big way, what with the adultery with Bathsheba.

Soli Deo Gloria!
