02/17/2022 – Gospel of John -Chapter 16 commentary: “the birth travail of the days of the Messiah” John 16:21

The birth labor pains of the mother may last 24 hours, perhaps more unfortunately for some, but caught in time within this breath we call life, we shout: “How long O Lord!”. I often reflect that in the toughest times,I resolve out of prayer to treat a day itself as a creation, my life, with a resolve to give Him the utmost glory before the sun sets to end this life. And then upon rising in the next day, “play it again, Sam!”

For those of you so inclined , complements to WIlliam Barclay , who shared a portion of Robert Browning’s poem – “Abt Vogler” within his commentary for this chapter:

I had verses 22 through 24 marked both with lookup reminders and posting here, so I share with you John Gill’s commentary on verse 23, allowing you to move one back and one forward from the page via the arrows:

I would encourage y’all to read through the scripture verses that Gill presents for praying to our Triune God, “three in one”.

If you get to Revelation 1:4 – my Apologetics Bible footnote shows: “The term ‘seven spirits’ may refer to the angels of the seven churches (chapters 2 – 3), other angels (8:2), or possibly the fullness of the Holy Spirit described in Isaiah 11:2.”

Isaiah 11:2 reads: “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him — a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the *fear of the Lord.” (Seven spirits total)

Soli Deo Gloria!
