A Treasure of Righteousness

Friday, March 17, 2023

Can you picture the stock traders on the floor of the Stock Exchange when stocks are quickly rising or falling? It’s crowded, chaotic, competing, desperate, nerve-racking. Everybody in this world crowds in to get hold of a good thing. But when it comes to seeking righteousness, not too many are around. There certainly isn’t much competition for it. But righteousness is the greatest treasure of all and nobody is fighting over it. It’s all there, it’s open for you, with no limit. Take as much as you want. It’s the treasure you have in God; the treasures of the Kingdom of God. So, stop seeking those things which are not treasures. So many are fighting for these things and have nothing. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. That is the treasure–the pearl of great price. The world doesn’t realize it, but you do. It’s free for the taking and you can have as much as you are willing to receive. That’s it. It’s amazing!
From Message #1264 – Seek First
Scripture: Matthew 5:6

TODAY’S MISSION – As you look to God each day, strive for the moral perfection that can only come from Him. Take your eyes off of what the world has to offer and seek His righteousness.

Today’s devotional dovetails with our first reading of the Gospel of John, chapter one, on St. Patrick’s day: “Jesus asks the two disciples: ‘What are you looking for’ or shall we say : ‘What are you aiming for in the this short life.’ Let our walk going forward match our reply: “Lord, I am looking for the perfect and eternal righteousness that only you can provide.” (all else is “chaff”). To use a worldly example, good time management focuses priorities on the greatest return of investment opportunities. To witness the Good News has infinite return potential. All else that ends with this world or our life, whatever comes first, is chaff . Mathematically proof: Say it is 100 years: 100 divided by infinity is the limit -0-, therefore it is worthless. To his Kingdom: (Infinity – 100 years) / Infinity = Infinity. There you have it! Where shall we spend our time then? No brainer, no?

Some might counter with: Jimmy, but we don’t know 100% that the Word of God is true. Ok, let’s presume there is only a 1% chance of it being true, let me redo the math: (infinity – 100 years)/ infinity * 1% = the limit infinity. Now, we’ll figure the 99% – the Christian faith and the Word of God is false: (infinity – 100 years) / infinity * 99% = the limit -0-. Think about it: If you are right and there is no God, it doesn’t make any difference, you are still dead forever after this life that lasts less than a single breath in relative terms no matter how old you are. So I have a choice that is of infinite value (immeasurable) vs. -0- value, to which choice do I do commit my “all”?

Soli Deo Gloria!
