“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.” Proverbs 25:2

This is another winsome single verse commentary from John Gill! :

“It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep.” Proverbs 25:27

I think this is related to 25:2 as in don’t probe too much in the mystery of God, other than to marvel at His unfathomable power and love.

These verses I consider basic common sense:

“Do not exalt yourself in the King’s presence, and do not claim a place among his great men; it is better for him to say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.” Proverbs 25:6

“If you find honey, eat just enough — too much of it, and you will vomit. Proverbs 25:16

Comment – We should distinguish between “joy” and “pleasure” . Joy is of the kingdom whereas we can go too far with “pleasure” to the point where it is sinful and harmful to our soul.

“Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house — too much of you, and they will hate you.” Proverbs 25:17

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self – control.” Proverbs 25:28 (this connects I believe with 25:16 above.)

As a society, I submit we are too caught up in “our own feelings”, to the point of a cultural narcissism epidemic.

Soli Deo Gloria!

In Proverbs 25:2, God’s glory is revealed when we seek to understand His mysteries. When we search out His truth, we bring glory to ourselves as His children because we seek to please Him(Proverbs 25:2). we should continually seek to uncover the mysteries in God’s Word because that is one way we can grow and learn more about Him. In doing so we also develope a deep yearning and a love for Christ.

    Ref: 2 Corinthians 3:18

Indeed!, let scripture testify to scripture… Heaven is eternally perfect. But I sense more and more that our transformation “into the same image from glory to glory” is a continual process. How so? We will never fully comprehend the Trinity, for we are not God. In other words, it is good that we have eternity to fully comprehend Him, for that is how long it will take us. haha
