- My footnote to 10:16 notes: “Skeptics argue that the Bible’s statement that the covenant is to be everlasting (Genesis 17:7, 10-11) contradicts verses saying that the circumcision is of no consequence (Galatians 6:15) Well, one has to let scripture testify to scripture and to understand context of verses that are often isolated and distorted by people who want to interpret it their own selfish whims. Here we have an answer in the Old Testament in 10:16: “circumcise the foreskin of your heart.” God tells the people of Israel and Judah that their sacrifices are meaningless, he wants their hearts.
- For emphasis no doubt, we are given a review of Deuteronomy 6: 6 -9 here in Deut. 11: 18 -21 , my paraphrase; “an admonition to teach our children 24/7 of God’s Truth.” And God’s promise in verse 25 : “That no man will be able to stand against you” if you obey these precepts. God’s absolutes are in fact absolutes.
- I will repeat for y’all 12:31: “You must not worhip the Lord your God in their way, because in worshipping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods. ” We put God in the dock for commanding later to not leave a living thing standing from a conquered neighbor people with these detestable practices and idol worship. But we should keep in mind that last sentence. You want to transform an angry God and create a god in your own image, do you? Well, if you remove the anger, that eternal unfathomable love will be extinguished as well from God’s image in your soul. Thy will be done.
Soli Deo Gloria!
