Dismas, the Penitent second thief on the cross alongside Jesus on the cross said to Jesus: “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom. And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (Account: Luke 23: 39 – 43) I saw a poll recently, that reported that 70% of people in the U.S. think they are going to heaven.
No one gets to heaven for being a “good’ person. We are all miserable sinners, with the only path to redemption being total acceptance of the substitutionary atonement of Christ. If that weren’t so, God the Father certainly would not have put Jesus on the cross. God’s Truth is unfathomable; it is not schizophrenic! Father, Son and Holy Spirit are unfathomably Holy, they cannot deny their very essence. How could they co-exist eternally in the midst of sin? As Tim Keller wrote in his book: “Jesus the King”, we have an invitation from the Trinity to join them in their eternal dance of perfect Agape love. The question for the ages: Do we accept the invitation, or reject it?
I have heard over the years: “Hell is not so bad.” Hell is total separation from God! They are blind to all the common grace they received from the Good Lord, even as non-believers. Heaven without Jesus would not be heaven! We cannot judge. But as to loved ones that reject God, I premise they would not be even vaguely recognizable as the same person that they were in this life.
Blessings to y’all’s day. We have the flu this morning so we watched Alistair Begg’s live streaming sermon from Parkside Church. I have a note to post it when it comes up on the church site, Wednesday or Thursday I expect. As Alistair noted, the resurrection of Jesus is an historical event. Were it not so, Christianity would not have even gotten off the ground.
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down Myself. I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father… I and My Father are one.” (John 10: 18, 30)
SolI Deo Gloria!
