04/30/2024 – “Melody in Your Heart”
The Strings of The Harp
Tuesday, April 30, 2024
Ephesians 5:19 speaks of singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord. The word melody in Greek is psallo, which means to pluck as a harp. Your heart is like a harp made to make holy music, if it’s played right. You might look in your life and heart and see things that don’t look beautiful; ups, downs, highs, lows, hopes, disappointments, joys, tears, love, and rejection all mixed together. A harp doesn’t have just one string, but many. It has both high strings and low strings. The highs give it brightness and brilliance and the lows give it deeper and fuller sounds. There’s a great beauty waiting to come out from your life and heart, from the highs and equally from the lows. The key is to let God’s Spirit touch all the strings of your heart and make it beautiful. Let Him touch your high strings- your joys- and your low strings- your sorrows and your hardships. Whatever it is, bring it to the Lord, because only the heart that’s touched by the Spirit can make heavenly music to God.

Matthew Henry notes in his commentary of Ecclesiastes 7:14: “Wisdom will teach us how to construe those dark chapters of Providence so as to reconcile them with the wisdom, holiness, goodness, and faithfulness of God. All things have I seen in the days of my vanity. Though Solomon was so wise a man, he calls the best days on earth are so, in comparison with the days of eternity. The calamities of the righteous are preparing them for their future blessedness, and the wicked are but ripening for ruin. There is a judgment to come, which will rectify this irregularity, and we must wait with patience until then.”
