05/11/2021 – Day 359 – Deuteronomy 32 – 34 // The Song of Moses / Moses Blessings the Tribes / Death of Moses on Mount Nebo

I have a summary paragraph from ‘gotquestions.org of the “Song of Moses” in Chapter 32, but I will put the link to the whole article underneath it; I encourage y’all to read it:

“God required the Israelites to learn the Song of Moses in anticipation of their future apostasy in the Promised Land. God knew that, despite His blessings, Israel would turn their backs on Him and follow other gods, bringing divine judgment. When that happened, the song they had learned generations previous would “be a witness . . . against them. . . . When many disasters and calamities come on them, this song will testify against them” (Deuteronomy 31:1921). The Song of Moses had both a prophetic purpose (it predicted the nation’s falling away) and a didactic purpose (it taught the faithfulness of God and the consequences of sin).

And recall, in just last Saturday’s reading in Revelation we read of the Song of Moses being sung by the seven angels with seven plagues in Rev 15:3 – 4.

In chapter 33, Moses dismisses the children of Israel with a blessing and what a blessing it was. Compare his blessing for each tribe compared to the blessing that Judah gave for his twelve sons, and the 12 tribes in Genesis 49. For Judah , there are really only two clear glowing blessings in the twelve, that being Judah and Joseph, for reasons of the “Christ bearer” and favored earthly son and Christ like imitation that could be attributed to that son.

The supersesssionism theology within the church totally escapes me in the light of scripture throughout the Bible. But the prophetic glowing blessing of Moses , in spite of recognized future downfalls, is just one example that solidly refutes the notion that children of Israel are no longer the covenant people of God. First, the number of Messianic Jewish evangelists is proliferating. Has anyone noticed? Second, what does Paul say to the Gentiles that are “grafted” into the root? Third, what about old testament prophets, not the least of which Isaiah affirms God’s eternal faithfulness to His people. This theology is heretical.

In Chapter 34, just before death, God let Moses get a birds eye view of the promised line on Mt. Nebo, even though he couldn’t see the promised land, a punishment for his disobediance. Verse, the concluding verse , verse 12, in the entire book of Dueteronomy notes: “For no one has ever shown the might power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.”

Soli Deo Gloria!
