The Marriage Bed & The Sexualized Culture

Tuesday, May 27, 2025

Modern culture is inundated with sexuality. Sexuality permeates television, film, music, magazines, commercials, the internet – every facet of modern media. Our culture is sexualized. Sexuality has always been part of life, but where did all the sexuality that saturates the media and modern culture come from? It came from the marriage bed. In earlier days, sexuality was confined to the marriage bed, in the hedges of the marriage covenant. The fact that sexuality now spills over into everything is a sign that the hedge of marriage has been breached. It’s no accident that the same culture in which the marriage covenant is weak, broken, redefined, or non-existent, sexuality is everywhere. Marriage has long been society’s hedge around sexuality. When such a hedge is broken, everything else becomes sexualized. As a believer living in such days, whether married or single, make it your aim to all the more guard the hedge and sanctity of marriage whether you’re inside it or out. Guard and uphold the sanctity of sexuality, and as it is written, let there not even be a hint of sexual immorality among you.

From Message #1163 – The Divorce Civilization I
Scripture: Hebrews 13:4

TODAY’S MISSION – Today, make it your aim to live in purity and holiness. Put and turn away from even the hint of sin.

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:4 – 9).

If I live long enough, I will be emphasizing to our two grandsons before they get to “high school” that their primary mission from the Lord is to keep and encourage the young christian ladies they date to stay pure before marriage. (a mission where “failure is not an option”!)

I have a beloved cousin – brother in Christ what shared with me many years ago that he thought the reason that David “failed” as a Dad was that after the Bathsheba sin, he didn’t feel that he could admonish his children in an area that he personally had so “failed” in. Personally, I didn’t buy that then, and I don’t buy it now. I want my grandsons to insist on so much higher than my past sins.

David had a heart for God, he habitually repented from sin by God’s grace and the Lord answered through His unfathomable love.

Always connected through prayer and by His grace,

Love,

Jimmy
