05/20/2025 – “You do not want a sacrifice, or I would give it; You are not pleased with a ‘burnt offering. The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. God, You will not despise a broken and humbled heart.” (Psalm 51:16-17) – Sublime! – See comments below.

The Power of The Broken

Tuesday, May 20, 2025

In the account of Gideon, we learn the power of broken pitchers. When Gideon’s men smashed their vessels, the light of their torches shone forth and they were given the victory. In the Gospels, we learn the power of broken containers as a broken vessel of ointment is poured out to anoint Messiah. In the ministry of Messiah, we learn the power of broken bread as He breaks a loaf that is not nearly enough to feed the thousands who are hungry, and yet having been broken, a miracle happens and it does that very thing. In the death of Messiah, we learn the power of a broken body as He gives Himself to be sacrificed and through it, He redeems the world. What do we see in all of this? The secret of brokenness and the awesome power of a broken vessel. Let your will be broken for His purposes and out of your life will come the shining of His glory, the anointing of His oil, and the power of His redemption. For there is no end to what God can do with a vessel that allows itself to be broken.

From Message #829 & 830 – The Gideon Guide to Victory II
Scripture: Psalm 51:17

TODAY’S MISSION – In that area of your life where there’s been resistance or hardness to the Lord’s will, or where you just haven’t let Him touch you, let your will be broken in surrender to His purposes.

Here is commentary on Psalm 51: 16 – 17 from my Apologetics Study Bible:

“The psalm is not repudiating sacrifice; the rites of the altar were the heart of Israel’s corporate worship. Because of the nature of David’s sins, there was no sin offering he could bring — those offerings were for sins of ignorance. Without a sin offering, he could not offer the atoning whole burnt offering. And he certainly could not offer a peace offering because his peace with God had been compromised. He could only plead for mercy with a broken spirit — that is, a will that had been stripped of all rebellions and pride.”

There just aren’t a lot of posts (*A -below) that I have tagged “sublime” the past four years. So let’s look at a definition of “sublime”:

“sublime /sə-blīm′/

(*A) – Primary sources: 1) Jonathan Cahn – “Sapphires”; (2) Oswald Chambers – “My Utmost for His Highest” ; 3).

adjective

  1. Characterized by nobility; majestic.
  2. Of high spiritual, moral, or intellectual worth.
  3. Not to be excelled; supreme.

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition • More at Wordnik

Ok, #3 should apply for all of our posts, “letting scripture testify to scripture”, the LORD’s word is infallible! We use exegesis, our conclusions should always be drawn from the Bible! (compare and contrast: “exegesis” vs. “eisegesis” – link below)

https://www.gotquestions.org/exegesis-eisegesis.html

So, definitions of #1 and #2 are subjective. It is a matter of degree, differing from each brother and sister in Christ. I am not going to check by searching on the word: “sublime”, but I don’t think I have used that on many posts the past four years.

Blessings to y’all’s day. Always connected through prayer and by His grace!

Your brother in Christ,

Jimmy
