06/09/2024 – Day 007 – Romans – Chapter 1 – 2
FYI: In our last cycle, I point you to the “03/06/2022” (search on the date) list titled: “The Fundamental Nature of Christ’s Work” and “The Basis of Man’s Standing Before His Creator.” The introduction consists of excerpts from Henry H. Halley’s commentary.

Romans 1:20 – “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,”

Note : The last section in this got questions.org article: “Evidence will not overcome obstinance” (see (Romans 1:18–20; Psalm 19:1; John 5:39–40; Luke 16:19–31; James 2:19).
2:4: “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”
Here is the footnote to 2:4 from “The Evidence Bible” NKJV:
“This verse is sandwiched between statements of God’s judgment and wrath. If Paul was saying that we should speak only of God’s goodness to sinners, he wasn’t practicing what he preached.” / Quote from Isaac Watts: “I never knew but one person in the whole course of my ministry who acknowledged that the first motions of religion in his own heart arose from a sense of the goodness of God. ‘What shall I render to the Lord, who has dealt so bountifully with me?’ But I think all besides who have come within my notice have rather first awakened to fly from the wrath to come my the passion of fear.”
Soli Deo Gloria!
