06/29/2021 – “Helmet of Salvation” – Ephesians 6-17//Christ has provided us with armor that is sufficient to withstand all of the devil’s accusations, and the helmet of salvation performs the vital function of protecting our minds. In sharp contrast to mindless faith, Alistair Begg stresses the importance of engaging our minds from a Christian perspective and thinking properly about salvation. Not earned or deserved, justification is God’s gift for all who believe. By understanding Scripture and trusting unreservedly in the finished work of Christ, we render Satan’s insinuations powerless.

And as far as the 20th century “mindlessness” and “meaningless”, we will revisit that in our upcoming book review: “Three Philosphies of Life” by Peter Kreeft, specifically the first philosophy: “Life is Vanity” theme in Ecclesiastes.

If I ever had to get a tattoo (never) it would be ” Not earned or deserved”. Something to remind myself everyday.

I have had numerous theological debates with Christian brothers over the years
that involve free will and God’s sovereignty. God gave us a free will. To them, I was
espousing the dreaded “pre-destination” position: “God chose us, we didn’t choose Him.”
I was engaged in such
a discussion with a neighbor and his friend many years ago that ended in a shared chuckle
between us. We were going around in circles. Finally, in exasperation I submitted:
Gentlemen, I think we can all agree that all of us face a judgement, saved or not, so I
am admittedly taking a risk that I am giving God too much of the credit here!”
