07/02/2022 – ““Is it not that in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? – that it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? – that it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity?” – John Quincy Adams

I recall reading an instance of a book about John and Abigal Adams, where John was writing young son John Quincy Adams frrom an ocean voyage across the Atlantic, assigned him “The Peloponnesian Wars” by Thucydides in his ongoing education. I looked up the year, and John Quincy was not even a teenager yet as I recall.

In college, I was an accounting major but I found myself enthralled in our Political Science class reading from “The Federalist Papers” by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay. On a nearly full work schedule on top of school, I found myself regretfully pulling away. (My future paycheck was coming from my accounting class. haha) But I can specifically remember asking myself: “Who were these guys!!!” I found a delayed answer about 25 years later when the Lord led us to the remnant revival of Classical Christian education, the education bedrock that our founding fathers were immersed in from a very young age. I see the fruits of that revival in our Christian remnant young adult generation today, a miracle from God. They may be vastly outnumbered, but they are certainly not outmanned by God’s grace.

Here is a follow up quote from another warrior founder:

“Is it not that in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? – that it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? – that it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity?” –

And as the article (link below) notes, Henry was quoting wisdom in this quote from Proverbs, Chapter 14.

I suspect I noted this last year : John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, political rivals in their youth and the best of pen pals in their old age, both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. That is sublime!

Soli Deo Gloria!
