07/08/2020 – Day 038: Judges 1 -6.
Chapter 2: 1 -4 : Compare and contrast Israel’s disobediance with America’s disobediance today:
“Then the Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim and said: ‘ I led you from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers’; and I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you. And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land, you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. Why have you done this? Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be thorns in your side, and their gods shall be a snare to you.’ So it was , when the Angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voices and wept.
I once had a Sunday school teacher claim that I was inappropriately assigning to the U.S. the same covenental position as Israel. What do y’all say? Does not the Bible show us God judging all nations? I would submit the “inhabitants of this land” today are pagan based hate groups running roughshod, spreading violence without recrimination, seemingly with not a so much as a protest whimper.
Are we not following the example of Israel noted in Chapter 2: 11- 12:
“Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals; and they forsook the Lord God of the their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them, and they provoked the Lord to anger.”
If someone has heard a “fear of the Lord” sermon over the last year, please share it with us.
In what way(s) , are the children of Israel portrayed in this passage actually ahead of us?
Ephesians 6:13!
Soli Deo Gloria!
