Commentary from the 1 John Introduction in “The Apologetics Study Bible”:

“Third John is the shortest book in the New Testament and the Bible. It only has 219 words in the Greek text… Third John is a personal letter that revolves around three individuals: Gaius (the recipient), Diotrephes (the troubler) and Demetrius (probably the bearer of the letter). It contains a word of exhortation to Gaius encouraging him not to imitate the bad example of Diotrephes but to continue the good work he is doing of receiving and supporting the traveling teachers / missionaries.”

“I have no greater joy than this: to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 4. Here is the verse footnote commentary: “To walk in truth implies a course of conduct or life, that is ‘living in the truth.’ The importance of both doctrinal integrity and spiritual vitality is evident in John’s affirmation that nothing brought greater joy to him than to know that his children were ‘walking I the truth.”

Here is a one sentence extract from our first cycle in this reading dated 05/09/2021:

“This was noted by by Halley’s Bible Handbook: “A Favorite Word with John. Used over 20 times in John’s Gospel. 9 times in I John. 5 times in II John. And 5 times in III John. Love in Truth (1). Walk in Truth (2,3) Help the Truth (8). Witness of the Truth (12).”

Soli Deo Gloria!
