07/15/2020 – Day 045 – Judges 7 -11 / Life lessons from an avoidable death: Jephthat sacrificing his daughter (11:39)
Re: 11:39 – Jephthat sacrifices his daughter:
Everytime I read through this passage, it saddens me. “All scripture is God breathed” (II Timothy 3:16) so what is God’s purpose for this passage? I am going to share the footnote in my Bible. (“The Evidence Bible ” – New King James Version (NKJV))
“Some believe that, because the Bible related the incident, it was somehow condoning it, and that the action pleased God. However, God clearly condemns this detestable pagan practice as an “abomination” (See Jeremiah 7:31, 32:35) The Scriptures are given to us for our instruction. We can learn life-lessons from all the stupid things that men and women did in the Bible. Noah became drunk and shamed himself. Saul became jeolous and destroyed his life. Judas was a hypocrite and ended up killing himself. Peter slept when he should have been in prayer, and denied his Lord. David let lust into his heart , and committed adultery and murder. These incidents were written for our admonition, and we can either humbly learn from them or proudly walk down the same tragic path. The choice is ours. See also Judg. 19:23-30 comment.”
And does not our present day in this country look strikingly similar to the nation of Israel? We will see that again and again in our readings spanning a period of over 1,000 years. And just like the nation of Israel, so often it appears right after God has so obviously blessed us and rescued us.
“World peace will come only when all mankind turns wholeheartedly to God to complete humility and voluntary unconditional surrendur. Until human nature is changed, we’ll have war.” Robert Page.
“We are in the world but not of the world.” But the Kingdom is here and now , as Yeshua (Jesus) proclaimed. So, we were born for these times so that we, as the remnant church, can give glory to God! If Gideon’s forces can be victorious over the Midianites, after God willows them down from 32,000 strong to just 300, so can we defeat the devil’s minions. God promises that the remnant church will never be defeated. So, we need to put on the armor of God, and stop playing the role of cowering wimps! Again, we are assured that we win at the final buzzer! Why then do we act like a bunch of losers?
Always connected by his grace and through prayer!
