07/16/2020 – Day 046 – Psalms 18 – 20
It is difficult to select a few “favorite” psalm chapters, let alone one. I have Psalm 145 – “A Song of God’s Majesty and Love” amongst my memory verses. But, I think we can make a case to pray Psalm 18 regularly – “God the Sovereign Savior”, as a praise prayer for our future deliverance of our enemies of this world. It is only getting more violent, with less and less justice with vitrile, open and unrestrained hate directed to Christians and Jews.
Take just three verses:
- vs 19: “… He delivered me because He delighted in me.
- vs. 27: “For you will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks.
- vs. 35: “…. Your gentleness has made me great.
David has a heart for God like a child. Remember, when Jesus told His disciples not to withhold the children from Him. And even His Matthew 18:3 delaration : “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Let’s look for this theme going forward with David exhibiting his sanctification, even as turmoil increases in his elder years. We’ll read again soon in 2 Samuel 6, the account of how David’s wife Michel rebukes him for dancing in the streets with the “common people” to celebrate the return of the Ark of Covenant to the City of David. Or how he instructs his fleeing loyal suporters not to lay hands on a heckler as they are fleeing from Absalom, as he notes: Let him
have his say… (2 Samuel 16 I believe) So let’s look for those examples going forward.
Blessings indeed! Look for Christian warrior mentors to motivate you. I am reflecting on Caleb’s example more and more as I am entering the “senior years.”
Love,
Jimmy
