I can still recall how the Samson and Delilah story so bothered me as a kid. How could someone so gifted be so stupid? I encourage you to read Matthew’s concise one page summary of Judges 16. (link above)
“The anguish of the suffering is ten thousand times greater than all the pleasures of the sin.”
“Samson’s afflictions were the means of bringing him to deep repentance.” Is this not clear evidence of God’s unfathomable love? And his justice too, with the demise of three thousand Philistines…
“That strength which he had lost by sin, he recovers by prayer.”
“But here is nothing to encourage any to indulge sin, from a hope they shall at last repent and be saved.” (Comment: God forbid, wouldn’t that fall under the unforgivable sin …?)
Note – As “Halley’s Bible Handbook” points out: Samson “was the last of the Judges mentioned in the book of Judges. Soon followed the organization of the Kingdom.”
Soli Deo Gloria!
