We have a prior year cycle post for this day #060 : “Fear of the Lord” – see verse 25:12, dated 07/22/2020.

I would like to share very short pithy summary commentary from Halley’s Bible Handbook for these chapters:

“Psalm 24. The King’s Arrival in Zion – May have been written when the Ark was brought to Jerusalem (II Samuel 6: 12 – 15). Maybe we will Sing it in that Glad Day when the King of Glory comes again.

Psalm 25. Prayer of a Sin-Oppressed Soul – David has his periods of Soul Depression, on account of his Sins and Troubles. There are many Petitions here which we may very profitably make our own. Read this Psalm often.

Psalm 26. David Protests His Integrity – In rather positive terms; very different from the previous Psalm. (See on Psalm 32.)

And then, I would like to share commentary from “The Apologetics Study Bible”:

“The earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord, for He laid its foundation on the seas and established it on the rivers.” Psalm 24: 1-2

Commentary: 24: 1-2 “The psalm begins as a hymn of praise. God is King by creation and by victory over the forces of evil. The poetry suggests that He takes the primeval waters and founded the earth ( 136:6). The language is a disparaging reference to pagan worship; the Canaanites venerated gods “Sea” and “River,” perhaps as forces of chaos. In the biblical perspective the Lord has complete control over the forces of nature.”

Commentary: “Psalm 25 This is an alphabetic, or acrostic, psalm; each lines begins with a letter of Hebrew alphabet in sequence. At the heart of the psalm is the appeal that God should remember His mercy and not our sins (vv. 6, 7 ). The verb ‘remember’ includes the idea of acting upon what is remembered.”

“Do not destroy me along with sinners, or my life along with men of bloodshed.” Psalm 26:9

Commentary: “26:9 Despite his failures, David tried to live a life separated from ‘men of bloodshed’ (see 2 Samuel 1: 13-16; 4: 9 – 12) and did not want to die in the judgment upon them. He did not see himself as one of them, so he prayed for divine protection (see 1 Samuel 15:6; Psalm 28:3; 104:29; Zephaniah 1: 2 -3; 3:8).”

Questions for fellowship generation, the lifelong sanctification process:

  • What does the text reveal about God’s character?
  • How has this reading generated prayer for you and/or us?
  • What themes stand out to you in this bible study?
  • How does our reading fit into the bigger picture (creation, the fall, restoration, etc.)?
  • What verse(s) jumped out at you like never before?  Is it explainable at this point?
  • Do you have any questions you would like to put before the group as to how to interpret any particular verse(s)  in our reading.  Let scripture testify to scripture: Share with us where you sense contradiction between passages elsewhere.
  • What did you find convicting and inspiring at the same time?  Share with us how the Spirit of God is working within you as a messenger, both within and outside of our fellowship group.
  • Share with the group how our study is calling or confirming to you a new mission to glorify God in our times.

Soli Deo Gloria!
