08/07/2020 – Day 75 – Job 21-22 – I disagree with Matthew Henry’s commentary here.

I quote the ending verses of our read starting with 22:27: “You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows…. vs29:.. When they cast you down, and you say, ‘Exaltation will come!’ Then He will save the humble person. He will even deliver one who is not innocent; Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.”

So, he will even deliver the guilty by the purity of Job’s hands? Matthew Henry’s commentary for these verses reads: “A good man is a public good. Sinners far the better for saints, whether they are aware of it or no. Eliphaz and his three friends were delivered by the pureness of Job’s hands, ch 42 vs. 8.” That referenced verse says: “.. and my servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly, because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as my servant Job has.”

The verse doesn’t say anything about the “purity of Job’s hands”. I suppose one could say by the grace of Jesus Christ, our sins are made “white as snow”. But, why praise the messenger, just praise God, the source! Jesus said: “Only God is good!” Thoughts? Comments?
