Solomon was indeed the only son for awhile of David and Bathsheeba. The first son died just after birth, followed by Solomon, then two younger brothers. So despite showing weaknesses as a father, Solomon recounts David teaching him wisdom at a very young age. (See God’s adminition to parents, right after the supreme commandment in Deuteronomy 6: 7-9.
In this chapter titled: “Wisdom is Supreme”, I highlighted: 4: 18-19: “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ere brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” We see multiple instances, particularly in the OT, where the writer bemoans how the wicked seem to thrive through their evil ways. But that is only in this world and in terms of worldly definitions, which might be looking at pleasure, instead of God’s joy. And Jesus said: What does it profit a man to gain the whole world , but then to lose his soul?
Soli Deo Gloria!
