Quick hypothetical question follow up: If a random sample of adult Americans were offered $1,000,000 if they could answer what this satirical article is pointing to , what % do you think could answer the question correctly? My wild guess: somewhere around the 40% mark.(*) So, do we applaud with a simple majority, 50% +1? Or, do we conclude, “Houston, we have a problem.” We knew that right, so just appreciate the satire. Turning our back on God as a country has horrific consequences. But don’t stop fighting and praying! Politics is not our Savior, but there is no direction we can turn that God does not speak to. Theoretically at least, we are still in a republic, so our leaders our a reflection of us.

‘(*) – I’m thinking I am more likely to be too high as opposed to too low. Oh well.

My Dad had a joke theme he liked to use with us kids:

  • What color is blue vitrol?
  • When was the war of 1812 fought?
  • My favorite during our rebellious teenage years:

  • When we were afflicted in a futile attempt at constructive argument in normal tone with him, he would mimic our theme / premise back to us:

“Are you going to listen to me, or are you going to listen to reason !?!” He would smile when he said it as if he was confident we would embrace reason at some point. (I am convinced he was praying regularly on that…). I remember how Christian worldview middle schoolers in my teaching days would soak up practical “logic” exercises. (*A) We would look at an argument and end with the question: “How many logical fallacies can you name in this debate?” They were too quick for me, even back in those days. haha

‘(*A) – In trivium methodology, the phases of learning through high school are: Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric. Logic was in the middle school age group. It was not a course but an emphasis in all courses, with a particular teacher emphasis on Socratic dialogue. Btw: Most of our country’s founding fathers were educated in Christian worldview and through the Trivium methodology. It was not teaching “what to think”, but “how to think”.

Soli Deo Gloria!
