09/24/2024 – Day 093 – Exodus 1 – 4 / Michael Knowles interview of Dennis Prager on the book of Exodus – 30 mins.
Here I go again, I mentioned this in last cycle but I am coming it from a different angle. Also in a previous dated 09/01/2020, we started with Exodus 3:15 “I AM WHO I AM”. That post also has a summary introduction to the book as I recall focusing on Chapter One. To call all posts up for this reading, just filter on “Day 093” and hit enter.
I encourage y’all to check in on this Michael Knowles interview of Dennis on the PragerU website:
I agree with Dennis: Whether it was the Jewish people at the time of the Exodus or people today, a common theme: Show me a miracle, and I will believe. But as Dennis points out, God’s miraculous “spectacle” miracles have an average half-life of about five seconds before it is out-of-sight , out-of-mind.
I thought the call to a return of “dressing up for church” has an excellent point: The dressing up is not for us, but for the Lord. And as was pointed out, we’ll dress up for the Queen of England, but not for the Lord.
A secondary note that I thought was interesting, Michael Knowles asked Dennis how he gets so much done: 1) Writing “The Rational Bible”, a commentary on the first five books of the Bible, The Pentateuch; 2). His extensive travel to speaking engagements, particularly to college camplus; 3). PragerU management and recorded segments himself.; etc… He gave two prime productivity tools: 1). He doesn’t take two week vacations. Instead he takes daily vacations, spending up to two hours a day in his numerous hobbies.; and 2). He does not work on the Sabbath.
I do not plan on purchasing Dennis’ “The Rational Bible” commentary, just as I would not want him to teach our Sunday school classes. Example: I won’t see the first prophecy of our Savior, Yeshua the Christ in Genesis 1:15. I must keep him in my prayers to the Holy Spirit, that he is in fact a “future Christian”. But even though Dennis is a devout Orthodox Jew, he is amazingly a Christian apologist in my mind. I agree that learning Biblical Hebrew would be very beneficial to understanding the OT, just as learning biblical Greek would enhance understanding of the NT. I picked the benefits of Hebrew up from reading Jonathan Cahn. Both Dennis and Jonathan are devout Orthodox Jews, the difference is Jonathan is a Messianic Jew, he is a current believer! I still find Dennis’ presentations personally beneficial.
Soli Deo Gloria!
