10/25/2022 – Chapter 8: “Can We Believe it if We Don’t Understand it?” – Group discussion
How do we reconcile “faith like a child” verses (Matthew 18:3 / Mark 10:14 / Luke 18:17) with worshipping God with our minds? (Romans 12:2 / Isaiah 1:18).
Check out this great article from “redeemingGod.com”. (link below) It is always a good idea to start with following Jesus’ example: “One of the things that attracted people to Jesus is that He was ‘childlike’. Does this mean He lacked wisdom and understanding? Far from it. Jesus was ‘childlike’ because He was full of the wonder of life, the hope of humanity, and the beauty of creation.” Also, as pointed out by Peter, little children worship God with their minds, with a hyperbolic learning curve. If only we could stay on that curve. haha

So in fact, don’t these seemingly contradictory verses in fact coalesce into one guiding truth for? : “How then shall we live”? I am thinking of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim Progress, how Pilgrim was compelled to walk the narrow path, lest he fall off the clif if he ventured off on either side.
I submit that Peter Kreeft presents us with an excellent concluding paragraph: “So at least let us be reasonable. God says: ‘Come now, let us reason together’ (Isaiah 1:18). Nothing is more reasonable than living in reality. And the only way to do that is to be holy.”
One more note: Tolstoy’s parable from “Confession” was spot on with this chapter theme. Soli Deo Gloria!
