11/01/2021 – post 1 of 3 today – Warrior Tools – spending time with mentor warriors that preceded us.. – a Ephesians 6: Put on the armor of God.
It is a good time to remind all of you:
The 03/27/2021 post titled: “All Time Movies About Warriors in battle that were “Christ Imitators…”
The quickest way: Go the filter key and enter the category – “Movies” , then hit the “filter” button. You will see the history of all posts in this category. But here is my suggested time management tip: 1) Study the Word! first and foremost, hopefully in the context of a Christian men’s group. If you don’t have one, start one even if it is initially a case of “when two are gathered in my name” . Wrap it in prayer. 2) Instead of tv sports or internet surfing: Spend some time with mentors that preceded us. Especially so if you ask yourself, how did they do what they did. (Answer: Only by the grace of God and prayer and so it is with us. Let us go further than we thought even conceivable because I sense that is our shared calling given where and when we were born.
I was born in the best of place and time so to speak, the elite. But here I go again with perhaps my most quoted bible verse: “For unto whomsoever much is given of him shall be much required.” – Luke 12:48. So, my “elite” background probably puts me in top 1% of most enviable of environments growing up. But you know what? It made me “soft”. I am a weenie! This is the paradox. I realize this is what my father was talking about just before he went home with the Lord, getting close to two decades ago. He told me more than once: “I feel sorry for your generation. My generation (“The Greatest Generation” coming of age at the onset of WW2) had the ideal. We grew up in the Great Depression and didn’t know we were poor. We graduated from high school and spent four years of our life in WW2. But from there it was all gravy!; particularly made all the moreso, because everything going forward seemed so easy like riding the perfect wave on a surfboard. Y’all on the other hand have the reverse of the ideal: You will be starting easy and then have to switch to ‘the toughest of times’ in your old age.” All I gotta say, grab onto the real life story of “Caleb” in His Word as a mentor to follow.
So, in parts 2 and 3 here today I am going to post two more mentor stories: 1) Fr Maximillain Kolbe from Poland , and,
2) Fr. Kapuan from Wichita – Korean War Chaplain. (Thanks brother Lenny for sharing this one!) It could be a coincidence, or not, that these two mentor warriors that have preceded us are catholic. For me personally, all the moreso, since I find myself once again defending catholics of late. The irony on top of it, is that it coincides with our recent news on the meeting between Pope Francis and Joe Biden. As I have stated this past week, it would be tough for me to be a roman catholic right now given Pope Francis. On whether or not the current pope is a Christian, I will leave that to Almighty God. Regardless, I don’t think I will be sharing a foxhole with the pope. But I will have the opportunity to share a foxhole I expect with Christian warriors that happen to be catholic. And that is already true today with a lifelong brother, even though we remain physically separated for the past forty years. Always connected by His grace!
My main point here once again, particularly to my protestant brothers and sisters is: Let us not attempt to divide the one body of Christ. That would please the Devil. There are not only catholics out there that are “Christians”, as opposed to self professed “christians”, but real mentors for those of us in the faith!
I am resolved to get posts #2 and #3 out before I close my day. Arm up!; Semper Fi!
Soli Deo Gloria!
Love,
Jimmy
