“Jimmy the Lesser”, as opposed to “James the Lesser”, who was “James the Lesser” in the bible?

14:3 – “A fool’s talk brings a rod to his back but the lips of the wise protect them.”

John Giill’s comentary – link below:

Note – Revelation 11:5 reference at the end of the commentary brings a very interesting unexpected twist. haha

14: 7: “Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.”

  • This verse connects back with my commentary on 13:20 – Momma’s adage: “Birds of a feather flock together.” Hang out with a fool(s) and you will be transformed into their likeness…

14:10: “Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy.”

Stick with this commentary for the brief time it takes to read and reflect on, and you will be rewarded going forward.

14:19: “Evil men will bow down in presence of the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.”

Again, as many times as I have read through the bible, I haven’t grabbed onto this, despite all the bible verses supporting it. “Let scripture testify to scripture!”

14:23: “All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.”

Funny, but what I used to tell our kids over and over, “always underpromise and overdeliver”, has a strong connecting element to this verse.

14:26: “He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge.”

Another connection: If we want our children to be godly and impregnably secure, our love priorities are:

  1. Lord God Almighty; 2) Our wife; 3) Our children. Our children gain strength from this proper ordering. But so many of us have tried it in reverse order, so that our children become weak and vulnerable to the Devil and his minions.

14: 34: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”

Matthew Henry in his commentary points out: “The people of Israel were great when they were very good, but when they forsook God all about them insulted them and trampled on them.” I would add that a study of the old testament would show that God judged “all” nations. And, since God is immutable, we can extend that “judged” to “judges”; past, present and future up to the 2nd coming of Christ.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Love,

Jimmy
