My bride and I watched this last night. More often than we recognize: “To whom much is given, much will be required” (Luke 12:48) applies to so called little blessings. With increasing prayer, I see it more frequently and with greater impact; I would describe it as “taking a drink of water from a fire hose.” So it is hard to even highlight key takeaways here, for it is power-packed. But here is just two:

  • “The Holy Spirit desires to bless us so much more than we are willing to take the time to ask Him for.”
  • Misconceptions of the Holy Spirit originate from two diametrically opposed perceptions: Those who largely ignore Him vs. “A Preoccupation of Him by those who don’t really know Him, a role He wouldn’t take on Himself.” Alistair explains the relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as a covenant of redemptive purpose. In a lesser sense, I was struck by the momentary reflection that the same holds true as to the role of Mary, the mother of God. (My siblings and I grew up in a home where we were split between two churches every Sunday morning: Roman Catholic and Missouri Synod Lutheran. Here too: “To whom much is given…, for we couldn’t have asked for more two more rock solid and grounded and loving Christian parents. )

I also recall our older daughter reminding me that christians have an indwelling Holy Spirit. Therefore, amidst the spiritual battle that has been going on for all of human history, the Devil’s minions can oppress us, but they can’t possess us, it is impossible. And if we overcome that oppression by “standing fast”, we have successfully seized the opportunity to glorify God! Once again, by His grace and through prayer…

Soli Deo Gloria!
