12/09/2020 – Day 206 – 2 Kings 16 – 20 // A Spurgeon quote that speaks to our country right now where we stand, a deep hole that we have dug for ourselves, as vultures hover above us.
“It is not you goodness that will ensure an answer to your prayer – it is the greatness of your need. Even if you have sunk very low in your own esteem, till not a ray of hope seems left to you and you are shut up in the blackest darkness of despair, that is the very time for you to pray, even as the Psalmist said, ‘Out of the depths I have cried unto You, O Lord.” Charles Spurgeon
So, I think we all should praying for a ring of justice from the Supreme Court, to hear and respond appropriately to the Texas lawsuit against the “dirty” states that circumvented the Constitution with election fraud. And pray to that we will respond appropriately with praise and a resolve to return this country to God, unlike Judah in our reading here.
We see Joshua again in his role as messenger for the Lord. It’s funny after we just spent so many Saturdays not too far back going through the book of Joshua. 2 Kings is after all is in our history theme on Wednesdays.
- As my footnote points out in the 18: 19-36 section: “Sennacherib Boasts Against the Lord”: “Here is insight into the wiles of the devil. See Ephesians 6: 11-18 for information on how to overcome him who seeks to undermine our faith in God.
- We are the most despicable of all creatures (original sin) without God’s grace: Here God sends an angel to kill 185,000 Assyrian troops in the middle of the night. So, do you think the people would hold close to their heart a spirit of thankfulness for God’s amazing miracle deliverance, for many generations no less. Imagine , surveying a scene with 185,000 corpses on the ground without a battle. And then, Sennacherib is killed at the hands of his two sons.
- “Can we talk?” (remember Joan Rivers?,lol) I’m just sayin here, it is not for me to judge characters of the bible but to me, I have much less sympathy for Hezekiah than say even a Saul. Why? He prays from deliverance from death and when Isaiah delivers the message that God would extend his life 15 years, how did Hezekiah respond but to note how wonderful that he would not see the destruction of Judah. And note , that he even asked for another sign of his healing. And then at the end of our reading, after his deliverance, he exposes Judah’s national armory/treasury to the Babylonians.
Always connected by His grace and through prayer!
