12/13/2022 – Day 289 – Deuteronomy 1 – 3 / 2 of 2/ “It is profitable for us to divide our past lives into distinct periods; to give thanks to God for the mercies we have received in each, to confess and seek the forgiveness of all the sins we can remember; and thus to renew our acceptance of God’s salvation, and our surrender of ourselves to his service. Our own plans seldom avail to good purpose; while courage in the exercise of faith, and in the path of duty, enables the believer to follow the Lord fully, to disregard all that opposes, to triumph over all opposition, and to take firm hold upon the promised blessings.” Matthew Henry (bio attached)

It is not about the messenger, but learn about his walk with the Lord…

I have just one question that I cannot answer: What is Matthew’s reference to “past lives” in the 1st sentence. I know for a fact he didn’t believe in reincarnation. haha So, it speaks to what I expect is a common experience, certain impactful episodes in our life can create the impression of “many lives” within one life. And from there, Matthew is proposing we subdivide it just once more into distinct periods. Thoughts?

Soli Deo Gloria!

Your brother in Christ,
