12/25/2020 – Day 222 – Proverbs 16 – Humble path vs. Pride path

0

Proverbs 16:2: “All the eyes of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the spirits.”

Commentary footnote 16:2: “This is never so evident, as when you ask a guilty sinner if he thinks he is a good person. (See Proverbs 21;:2; Luke 16:15) When the Law is used properly, it strips a man of self-righteousness. See Luke 18: 18-23”

Proverbs 16:5: “Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.”

Commentary footnote 16:5: “God resists those who are proud. Grace is only for the humble.” With the Law, we break the hard heart. With the gospel, we heal the broken heart.”

  • Note , we need both the Law and the gospel in tandem to be saved.

Dennis Prager and Ben Shapiro spend alot of time engaging hostile audiences on college campuses. They are both amazing in that I have never heard them raise their voice despite all the vitrol that is thrown at them.

I recall Dennis Prager, engaged on the Berkeley campus in a debate with two secular humanist students, quickly presented the bottom line with a question: “Let me guess, you believe that man is basically good, no?” It seems that “original sin” is no longer recognized , even in the church. Who is God?; Who is man?; and, What is our relationship to God?
