07/16/2025 – Day 044 – Genesis – Chapters 24 – 27 / “Peeling the onion” of God’s Truth, discovering “endless”multiple layers…
Posts from our past two cycle : 1). 07/14/20 – “Distinguishing between “birthright” and “blessing”; 2) 04/12/22 – 25:23: “And the Lord said to her (Rebekah) : Two nations are in your womb…”
Admittedly, this on the surface seems obscure, given all of God’s truth to explore, but I will explain after the verse and my footnote commentary from “The Evidence Bible NKJV” for the verse:
“And, he made his camels kneel down outside the city by a well of water at evening time, the time when women go out to draw water.” Genesis 24:11
And the footnote:
“Ten thirsting camels. The Ten Commandments are like the ten camels that carried Abraham’s servant in search of a bride for his beloved son Isaac (Genesis 24: 10-20). When the servant arrived at Nahor, he had his ten camels kneel before the well at the time the women go out to draw water. He prayed that the bride-to-be would be evidenced by the fact that she would have consideration for the camels. When Rebekah saw the camels, she ran to the well to get water for them.
God the Father sent His Spirit to search for a bride for His only begotten Son. He has chosen the Ten Commandments to carry this special message from His Lord. While we may not be able to clearly distinguish the Bride of Christ from the rest of this world, the Holy Spirit knows that the primary reason she draws water from the Well of Salvation is to satisfy the ten thirsting camels of a holy and just Law. The true convert comes to the Saviour simply to satisfy the demands of a holy Law. The espoused virgin has respect for the Commandments of God, she is no a worker of lawlessness. Like Paul, she delights in the Law, and says with the Psalmist, ‘I will run in the way of Your commandments’ (Psalm 119:32).”
The literal passage is obviously significant here. But, the Bible is like peeling an onion, an unending layer after layer that lies underneath the surface. This commentary could in fact just be one of an infinite number of examples. What does it mean? I would submit that God is incomprehensible to us. As I recently in a weak analogy: “It is like me attempting to explain calculus to Mac, our dog”. But in this case, sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us to an amazing discovery. And there is no way we can be sure, but that is ok. We have all we need to be sure of and more…
Do you have any impressions within this reading? Here are some that crossed my mind:
- Abimelech was quite a honorable and moral gentleman from all appearances in his dealing with Isaac. To the side, what’s up with both Abraham and Isaac introducing their wife as a sister, for fear they would killed? Was that a genetic thing? haha. But to make my point, look at Abimelech’s response when he becomes aware of this weird deception in 26: 10-11. Perhaps the Holy Spirit can be imparted to pagans / future believers in a positive way, just as the heart of Pharaoh was hardened in a bad way in order to achieve God’s purposes.
- Both Esau and Jacob are liars: In Esau’s case, 27:36, he whines to his father Isaac that Jacob stole his blessing twice, when in fact, the first time he gave it away knowingly to Jacob in exchange for the lentils. Note: It tells you how much he valued the birthright. In Jacob’s case, of course we have him deceiving Isaac that he was Esau so he could receive the birth-right.
Soli Deo Gloria!
