The Fatherless Koran

Tuesday, September 24, 2024

Does the Bible explain the Koran? In Genesis 21, Ishmael is sent away from his father Abraham. The Arabs trace themselves to Ishmael. From the children of Ishmael comes Islam and the Koran. In the Koran, there are many titles of God. But you’ll never see Him called ‘Father’. Islam tends to see God as distant, not as a loving father. This all goes back to Ishmael. Ishmael felt cut off from his father Abraham, and it has affected the history of the Middle East ever since – and the religion of Islam. The Bible speaks of God as a loving Father. Many believers know that as doctrine but not in their hearts. So they spend their lives trying to prove their worthiness, as if God was only a judge. Or they live in anxiety as if they have no father to protect them. But the Bible says that God loves you as a father loves his child. And He’ll provide, protect, care for you, and even carry you when you can’t walk. Therefore it is written, ‘Be imitators of God, as beloved children.’ Walk in His love. For you are not fatherless. You’re His beloved child. Live like it.

From Message #948 – Ishmael’s Secret
Scripture: 1 John 3:10

TODAY’S MISSION – Today, walk for real as a beloved child, and in the confidence of knowing your Heavenly Father will never leave you or forsake you.

Allah is a unipersonal god. God is love. Where is the love? Love is relational, it requires more than one person. Therefore it is absent from the Muslim religion, and it is obvious. Muslims declare Christians as polytheists. You know I get that, on man’s level. But the Lord our God is unfathomable, it is folly to try to bring Him down to our level. So, it is folly to think you can fully understand it. It would be like trying to teach my dog calculus, smart as he is for a dog. Embrace the mystery as a little child. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – three in one! If you have perfect love, which is unfathomable to us, it is indeed three persons, one God!

I attended a christian church’s seminar on witnessing to Muslims years ago. They seemed to emphasize that we shouldn’t mention the Trinity up front, that it took a long time. I still disagree to this day. You mention it right up front and then continue to pray fervently. I recall having lunch with a beloved colleague many years ago. As we departed, I shared with him that Paul said we Christians are the most pathetic creatures that have walked the planet, if it isn’t all true. But if it is, and we walk away, we walk away from the eternal perfect love of the triune God. I drew hope from the look he gave me. So, every time I tell this story, I remember to pray for Khan, my brother in Christ.

In my years in prison ministry, many of the inmates struggled with “love of the Father”. Why? In large numbers, they never had a father around the house, or worse, they had an abusive father. The problem has become much more pervasive across all of society today.
