Solomon’s Prayer – 6: 12 – 6: 42: Our prayer group at our church pray through the Psalms weekly. That will remain the core, but we will add prayers to scripture outside of the book of Pslams. The Solomon’s prayer section just might make it on our list. It appears under Liberty University’s list of “100 Most Important Chapters in the Bible”. They list 1 Kings, Chapter 8 but the prayer is also in 2 Chronicles, Chapter 6.

Isaiah prophesies over the one body in Christ. But here we have Solomon praying: “Even for foreigner who is not of Your people of Israel but has come from a distant land because of your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm: when he comes and prays toward this temple, may you hear in heaven in Your dwelling place, annnd do all the foreigner asks You for. Then all the peoples of the earth will know your name.” (6:32 – 33). Is that not amazing!

All commentary from here comes from “The Apologetics Study Bible” verse commentary:

“I will establish your royal throne, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man on the throne in Israel”. (7:18)

“7:18 See Micah 5:2. This was a reaffirmation of God’s promise to David spoken by Nathan ( 2 Samuel 7: 12-16). This centered the hope of Israel on the dynasty of David for succeeding generations. In the exilic and post exilic ages, the expectation of a coming Messiah came into sharper focus, commencing with Jeremiah’s and Ezekiel’s vision of a Messiah who would combine the traits of a king and a priest (Jeremiah 33: 14-18; Ezekiel 46: 1-8; Zechariah 4: 1-14; 6:13).

“Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. His son Rehoboam became king in his place.” (8:31)

8:31. The Chronicler omitted Solomon’s latter years where his fidelity to the Lord slipped. It is not, as some have asserted, that the Chronicler was covering up Solomon’s failures. Time and time again we see that the Chronicler assumed his readers had access to and knew of the books of Samuel and Kings. He omitted details that were not relevant to his purpose in order to show what kind of person should sit on the throne of David. The latter Solomon was not that kind of person, and so was left out of the narrative. This authorial decision was the same as the decision to omit the Bathsheba affair and Uriah’s murder by David.”

Soli Deo Gloria!

Jimmy comment: So, who was the only person that could sit on the throne of David through eternity but Jesus Christ, our Lord…
