03/07/2021 – Day 294 – Hebrews 11 – 13- “The peace that passes all understanding….”
Good morning! I’m starting with 11:5-6 on this glorious Sunday worship morning:
“Let your conduct be without covetnousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
If I am not completely content in my circumstances at any given moment, I am commiting the sin of covetnousness. We have seen that Paul could be content through all trials, even striking joyous notes as he was chained in a prison cell. I would say we all need to “aim high” , using the toughest Christian warriors as role models , not christian leaders that have the talk but their walk is all “the world”.
The Glorious Company
The communion of saints: Reference 12: 22-24: “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the company of angels., to the general assemply and the church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.”
As Matthew Henry comments at the end of his commentary in these verses : “It speaks pardon to their sins, peace to their souls.” Reflect a moment on being perfect. I wake up each morning striving to love Nancy perfectly. What would it be like to no longer be striving in vain to break through the finish line tape? I can still recall the momentary elation of breaking that tape in the 800 meters in middle school (880 yards in our day) with my lungs on fire and my legs like concrete. Suddenly, the pain was gone in a flash!
And as I noted earlier this week, if we could only see our cheering section in heaven as we resolve to fight through our suffering in this world to His glory…… If only we could see it. It occured to me when God “raises the curtain” to an unfathomable joy experience, perhaps it is more a sign of weakness than it is of strength. Such was the latest experience, when he came to me at about 4:00 am , as He got me up to post to this blog before work with a message that was not even in my head as I read the scripture the day before. I replied sadly with a retort, talk about “fear of the Lord”.
So, God talks to me now. He does not talk to me more now, it is just I am a better listener. By His grace, I am so much more immersed in His word with this 365 read plan. It is prayer , read , reflect and pray again. Because of the time constraints, I have had to just about completely shut myself out from the world’s incessant blaring noise. , Now, I realize I was still a captive . No more! , enough!
Soli Deo Gloria!
Your brother in Christ,
Jimmy
