Our worship leader relayed this story from pastor Francis Chan before we all sang this hymn of praise! :
At the end of the service, a member approached him and conveyed: “I just wasn’t feeling it today.” He said Francis noted: “I wanted to say, that’s OK!; It’s not about you anyway!” I’m thinking: In situations like that, perhaps it would have greater impact if it was shared with: “… It’s not about us anyway!” It removes the natural personal defensiveness, that may even extend beyond ineffectual to negative consequences.
Likewise, I recall a suggested leading question for witnessing years back to “future” christians: “If you die today, where are you going?” Instead: “In this world we never know: “If we die today suddenly in a horrific accident, where are we going? If they should turn it to: “Where are you going?” Reply: “I’m a mess but I am a redeemed mess through the blood of Jesus Christ, so I will immediately enter into eternal joy in heaven.”, followed by ongoing prayer of course. This just occurred to me yesterday. Soli Deo Gloria!
