07/28/2020 – Day 065 – Genesis 36 – 39

Why did God choose to record the genealogy of the family of Esau in Chapter 36 in Genesis? I don’t know the answer to that question, but that in no way shakes my belief that all scripture is “God-breathed”. (See II Timothy 3:16)

Note in verse 36:31 that the early Edomites had a kings long before Israel had a king.

Reference – https://www.compellingtruth.org/Edomites.html :

“Between the Old and the New Testament times, the Edomites were once again controlled by the Jews and forced to embrace Judaism. In the Greek language that gained prominence during this time their name became the ‘Idumaeans’. King Herod was an Idumaean and ruled at the time of the birth of Jesus; he also commanded the deaths of all males two years old and under in Bethlehem in order to kill the threat of a Jewish king (Matthew 2: 16-18)

The Edomites by then known as the Idumeans, would eventually disappear from history. One of the last mentions of the Idumeans was a reference to the land of Idumea by the church leader Jerome around AD 400. The prediction that Esau (the Edomites) would serve Jacob (the Israelites) proved true.

Joseph is a foreshadowing of the Yeshua the Christ. He goes to prison, and uses the suffering to give glory to God. And note, this did not happen over night. Life is just a breath, but we need to standfast and have faith in God, no matter what this evil world throws at us. So let us seize the opportunity to use the suffering to not only give glory to God but to frustrate the devil and his minions.

Soli Deo Gloria!

It is not in our reading but the Honarable Attorney General Bill Barr makes me proud to be an American. Another example, ignore being outnumbered by “evil”.
