Ooops, I take that back, this is not a good illustration of comparing verses for each side of an argument to determine the appropriate biblical interpretation. Check out the attached link, which speaks to the belief that our soul “sleeps” until the 2nd coming, as opposed to being immediately reunited with our Lord in heaven. Why is it not a good example? Answer: I do not have the verses from the “soul sleep” position , nor can I come up with any without further research. I’m thinking perhaps just before Lazarus was raised from the dead by Jesus, there may have been a short reference to Lazarus’ soul “sleeping”.

I will add that evidence for immediate reunion with Christ, perhaps just after an angel messenger, might also include antidotal evidence from people’s testimony after being brought back from momentary “death” by modern medical technology. The movie: “Heaven is for Real” would be an example, which is a true life story with real life character corroborating testimony.

In general, we should always search for corroborating evidence from other verses before we make wild sweeping interpretations from a single verse. I will give an illustration of that:

“Do not judge!” Yes, I agree, we do not judge future christians that are not yet of the faith. But does that apply to brothers and sisters that are within the local church body? I submit : “absolutely not!”, quite the contrary from Paul’s epistles that draw a clear distinction between the two groups. I have posted in the past in this blog on the Bible verse references to support that position. So, please add a comment request if you want me to supply those verses.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Your brother in Christ,

Jimmy
