Isaac Watts, one of the most prolific English hymn writer in history, from the 90th Psalm. First three verses: “LORD, this has been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever those hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, those art God.”
Once again, I am thankful for a book that suggests praying the psalms, Donald Whitney as I recall. The prayer acronym – “ACTS”: Adoration; Confession; Thanksgiving; Supplication is a suggested order. Prayer 145 is a prayer of adoration that I start my day with; the 90th Psalm is a prayer of supplication. And yes, be it individual or group prayer, prayer can be inserted as the Spirit leads in between the verses.
I encourage y’all to take just a few minutes to read Isaac Watts biography. Take a note how parents and grandparents devoted their time to children’s education during the hardest of time, obedience to God’s seemingly impossible command in Deuteronomy 6: 6-9… And take note of how Isaac kept marching on, even through long years of poor health to the extent that he could not even appear in public.
Again, it is not about the messenger, but I increasingly find in life time well spent reading about fellow souls persevering in rock solid faith, way over my head. Aim high!
