FYI – There is a post for last cycle of this 21 day fellowship: search on “02/07/2022” for the chapter six commentary. Also, for our Semikkah7 read through the Bible plan in 365 days, search on 12/28/2020 , or for logged in users, use the filter key to filter on this category: “Gospel of John: 21 chapters in 21 days”. The filter is most useful as it will bring up all posts, including introductory posts that did not cover a specific daily reading.

Again, I am going to give you the link to Matthew Henry’s concise commentary version for Chapter Six, a resource for our study:

The verse that really jumped out at me (question #5) , Peter’s response in verse 68 to Jesus’ question in verse to the Twelve disciples: “You do not want to leave too, do you?:

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

Peter was going 180 degrees from the defecting crowd. I think Barclay’s commentary nails it with his concluding commentary on this section : verses #66 through #71:

“Peter’s loyalty was based on a personal relationship to Jesus Christ. There were many things he did not understand; he was just as bewildered and puzzled as anyone else. But there was something about Jesus for which he would willingly die. In the last analysis Christianity is not a philosophy which we accept, nor a theory to which we give allegiance. It is a personal response to Christ. It is the allegiance and the love which a man gives because his heart will not allow him to do anything else.” (pg 230 – ISBN # 0-664-24104-2 / First Edition, July 1975 published by The Saint Andrew Press ; Edinburgh, Scotland.):

Question: To use the analogy from John Bunyan’s book: “Pilgrim’s Progress”, how do we stay on the narrow path of discernment in our walk with Christ? Compare and Contrast the following two verses, but don’t let me limit your answer:

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

“He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…’ ” Matthew 18: 1-4

And I encourage y’all to post on our other two sections in this chapter: “Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand” John 6: 1 – 14″; and “Jesus Walks on the Water” John 6: 16-24.

Soli Deo Gloria!
