Now for today:
1 Sam 24: Funny circumstance, Saul just happens to relieve himself in the very cave where David and his small band of loyal followers are in hiding from Saul and his warriors that have been in pursuit of them. This could have been Saul’s death had David listened to his followers.
There are other branches on this tree of a sermon topic but Saul respectfully has just one request of David at the end, after David reveals to Saul that he could have killed him. aTake note, he acknowledges David’s forbearance , even acknowledging that David will be king at a future date. But he just asks that David “will not destroy his name from my father’s house.” It’s says David so pledged. Interesting in that David had already promised that very thing to his beloved brother in Christ – Jonathan, Saul’s son. But there is the contrast: Saul at least cared about his legacy and future generations of his family. Wheareas Hezekiah, fresh from deliverance from death by God, cared nada for what came after he was gone. Nevertheless, for Saul it is still a tragic turn, he could have used his acknowledgement of God’s hand by repenting before God and reconciling himself to David at that very moment. But he just couldn’t take that last step. Sad. He just couldn’t “let go” and “let God”.
Love,
Jimmy
