Words of Wisdom Plus Bible Reading Plan

Billy Graham made a habit of reading through the Psalms and Proverbs every month. That’s roughly five Psalms and a Proverb a day. Since I was already reading the Gospel of John each month (on days 1-21) as part of the 21-Day Challenge, I added the Gospel of John to Billy’s reading plan.

Dr. Billy Graham says in the Words of Wisdom foreword, “The Psalms tell us how to get along with God, and the Proverbs tell us how to get along with our fellow man.” As has long been Dr. Graham’s personal practice, Words of Wisdom makes it easy for anyone to read five Psalms and a chapter from Proverbs each day for 31 days.

That leaves 63 other books of the Bible to read. That’s 987 chapters. Or 26,847 verses. Which works out to 73.5 verses per day. Yes, I am very analytical even when it comes to reading God’s Word.

The Words of Wisdom Plus Bible Reading Plan takes the 63 books of the Bible that are not included in the monthly reading (books other than Psalms, Proverbs and John) and then divides them up so that each day you read roughly 73.5 verses. Some days may be more. Some less. But on average it’s 73.5 verses per day. We have not broken chapters up over a day. So on a given day you read one or more chapters. If the chapter has more than 73 verses, then you probably just read one chapter. But if the chapters are short you might read more chapters.

Each day you’ll receive an email that includes a video link to listen to the Proverb and Psalms online with Dwell. The link also includes the video movie of the Gospel of John. You’ll also receive a table of linked chapters. Clicking these links takes you to the Bible. On a phone with the YouVersion Bible App installed the reading will open in the app.
