02/10/2021 – Day 269// 2 of ? // – “Seek God’s face” – 2 Chron. 7:14

0

God’s Second Appearance to Solomon – 2 Chronicles 7:14: “if the people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

And the bible footnote to this verse in my Evidence Bible: “What God is His sovereignty may yet do on a worldscale I do not claim to know. But what He will do for the plain man or woman who seeks His face I believe I do know and can tell others. Let any man turn to God in earnest, let him begin to exercise himself unto godliness, let him seek to develop his powers of spiritual receptivity by trust and obediance and humility, and the results will exceed anytibng he may have hoped in his leaner and weaker days.”

And to conclude this reading, I am going to change course, enough perhaps that I should have posted a separate : “3 of ?” for today’s reading. But here goes:

And Solomon in 8:11 proclaims: “My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places to which ark of the Lord has come are holy.” What about the Holy Spirit that was within Solomon? Might Solomon have applied that same principle, therefore, not becoming “unequally yoked” with a heathen, “two becoming one flesh.” Did Solomon not see what this would do to his children and his children’s children, for a “1,000 generations” , as the song goes? The importance can no better be illustrated perhaps than by noting that right behind the greatest commandment that Jesus himself quoted, is Deuteronomy 6: 6-8 which is as follows:

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” This is why Alistair Begg concluded a sermon, speaking of David, by saying: “We must remember that the best of men, are men at best!” But, we must emphasize to our children and grandchildren that they shouldn’t marry outside of their Christian faith. I would submit don’t date them either. Why? Because it is a preparatory phase to marriage.

Always connected by His grace and through prayer….

Soli Deo Gloria!
