26:4 and 26:5 seem to contradict each other but it calls for “situational awareness”. Here are the verses:

“Do no answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him. / Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.”

I thought this explanation was insightful:

On a verse 4, here is a quote from Abraham Lincoln:

“If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very best I know how, the best I can, and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out right, what is said to me won’t amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right will make no difference.”

Soli Deo Gloria!
