03/28/2023 – Gospel of John Fellowship – Chapter Twelve – “Jesus Anointed at Bethany” and “The Jews Continue in Their Unbelief”

I encourage y’all to review our post from last cycle, subsection: Jesus Anointed at Bethany: verses 1 through 19. If our Lord is glorified through his suffering on the cross and his resurrection, are we not glorifying him though our suffering in this life, laying our life down for Him? The paradoxical verse that confounded me as a youth, 12:25.

As tools for our chapter reading today, I have included links to: 1) Matthew Henry’s commentary on the chapter; and, 2) John Gill’s commentary on John 12:40: Why does God blind their eyes and deaden their hearts? Does this not put connective meaning to other scripture in Isaiah, Isaiah 55: 6 – 7?

Nobody seemed to listen to Isaiah in his lifetime ministry. Was it all for naught? Can God even use sin to His glory?

Soli Deo Gloria!
