Attached below is John Gill’s commentary on 18:38, Pilate’s question: “What is truth?” How eery is it that he asks the one person in all of human history the most important question in life, who embodies “Total Truth”, and he doesn’t even wait around for an answer. We need to pray going into and during every witness encounter, recognizing it is the Holy Spirit that saves, not the messenger(s).

In today’s world, we oftentimes hear, not even a question, but an emphatic raised voice declaration: “There is NO absolute truth!”
Smaller stuff, I looked up verse 10, for I wondered about Simon Peter carrying a sword into the garden. As John Gill notes, perhaps Simon Peter anticipated trouble with the Judas betrayal and Jesus’ words.
